Long Trail
Appearance
The Long Trail is the oldest long-distance hiking trail in the United States, running 272 miles the length of Vermont from Massachusetts to Quebec. Built between 1910 and 1930, it was the inspiration for the Appalachian Trail, with which it shares its southern 100 miles.
Unlike the Pacific Crest Trail, it is famously rugged and rooty rather than graded for stock.
